The Shaming of the True

This blog is a course assignment. I didn't really expect to get much out of it other than a grade. I'm thinking now I may've been shortsighted in my attitude towards this class. As it turns out, unwittingly, before this class I really wasn't sure where I stood politically. I never felt it worth my time to get tied up in all the partisan rhetoric, it all reminded me of a dog chasing his tail.

Since being required to examine the intersection of media and politics, I believe my political stance is finally taking form. No offense intended, but I have to thank all the right-wing-whack-jobs out there for firming up my belief system. Because of venom you spew, I'm, without doubt, on the left.

Websites like NewsBusters - http://www.newsbusters.org/ light in me a militant fire of distain and revulsion for these ridiculous idiots that actually believe climate change is simply a liberal concoction. These are the same folks that believe the Bible is to be taken literally, that the LBGT community will all burn in hell for their "sins", and that science is the devils work.

In politics especially, Christian fundamentalists and their media lapdogs are hindering our countries evolution. Fox news, and the likes, who champion their moral hypocrisy under the guise of family values only perpetuate their delusional, archaic insanity.

  1. It's funny you say this... Having lived in many parts of the United States, as well has having spent a few years abroad while in the Army, I've had a chance to see the way others live. I think because of those experiences, and having had parents who believed that the truth is somewhere in the middle all the noise, I find myself a little more middle of the road on certain issues. Here in the south unfortunately, and among a fair chunk of military brethren, the lack of venom being spewed by me gets me placed firmly in the lefty camp. That is until we have a discussion about these different issues, and they start to see some of my views are similar to theirs, just without the vitriol and extremism. Though in fairness I find myself equally disgusted by some of my more liberal friends, as they seem to spew the same extremism, only a different flavor of it.While media outlets are a business trying to cater to a certain demographic so they can get those ad dollars, I think as a whole the nation would be better served with a more unbiased media. Rather then spending most of our time calling the other side traitors because we disagree, we would ultimately better served if we could work on those items we agree on.

  2. I agree with you Alex, and thanks for the comment. There's a fine-line between productive discourse and destructive bickering. If both camps softened up a bit, concentrating on similarities instead of disparities maybe together we could influence the media giants to cut to the truth and stop treating us like children, before they go the way of the dodo.
